After teasing viewers with posters and glimpses of Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana, the makers of Spencer have released the first full-length trailer and it is everything one expected and more. Restrained yet vulnerable and fully orchestrated yet so real. While the teasers presented Stewart’s transformation into the people’s princess, the trailer promises to tell the tale of her emotional turmoil as a member of the royal family. It is safe to say that the film which has already opened to positive reviews and standing ovations at film festivals has got the internet hooked!
Every fairy tale ends.

To give you context, the film is a fictional account and director Pablo Larrain’s imagining of the drama-filled weekend at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. While we have seen many retelling of Princess Diana’s life in movies and shows including Netflix’s The Crown, Spencer hinges around the unfateful weekend at the royal family’s holiday home where the late Princess felt the weight of her failing marriage with Prince Charles and a tumultuous, dangerous relationship with the press. That and her ferocious love for her sons Prince William and Prince Harry. In fact, the trailer does the job of piquing the interest about the film that is named Spencer for a reason.
Unraveling her individuality and her identity apart from the royal tag, the emotionally-charged trailer not only gives the fans more of Stewart who seems to have completely imbibed the late icon but also hints at the big thing in store including the famous wedding gown that the actress dons in one scene. Cinematically, it is unmissable especially when Stewart’s Diana goes “There’s no hope for me, not with them.” Ultimately ending with “Will they kill me, do you think?” Watch it here:
Like I said, the internet is obsessed with everything that is Spencer. From Stewart’s look to her British accent, the peeps sure have a lot to say about her “definitive on-screen Diana.” Many are also convinced that she is going after that Oscar and we can see why!

I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS. Kristen looks and sounds better than I expected, honestly! Her accent, gestures, gaze; her everything screams Diana at my face. I also liked the color palette a lot. It gives me such 80ish vibes. It will be a marvelous watch for me for sure. https://t.co/cAuglKlT0G

Earlier, Larrian had told Deadline, “Kristen is one of the great actors around today,” Larraín said. “To do this well, you need something very important in film, which is mystery. Kristen can be many things, and she can be very mysterious and very fragile and ultimately very strong as well, which is what we need. The combination of those elements made me think of her.” He added, “I’ve seen movies from Kristen that are so diverse it’s incredible, showing different layers and her diversity and strength as an actress. As a filmmaker, when you have someone who can hold such a weight, dramatic and narrative weight just with her eyes, then you have the strong lead who can deliver what we are looking for.”
Written by Steven Knight, the film also stars Timothy Spall, Jack Farthing, Sean Harris and Sally Hawkins. Spencer is all set to release in theatres on November 5.
