Chris Pratt To Play Mario In Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros; Netizens Share Their Excitement

Actor Chris Pratt, who is popularly known for his portrayal of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord in Marvel’s popular franchises: Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers, will be starring as Mario in Nintendo’s upcoming animated movie which will be releasing on December 21, 2022. The giant electronics and gaming company also revealed the rest of the A-list cast: Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike, with Charles Martinet featuring in a cameo role.

While the iconic Super Mario video game has been adapted into a film previously (in 1993), Nintendo’s announcement was significant enough to spark off a debate on the internet. While many seem to be excited about the casting, a certain section of group did raise their concern over Pratt’s inclusion and if he would be able to pull off the iconic character. On the other hand, the announcement even served as fodder for meme-makers, who were quick to pounce on the opportunity.

Last seen in Chris McKay’s sci-fi action-flick The Tomorrow War, Pratt took to social media to share his excitement about the new project. The 42-year-old actor talked about his childhood and the Super Mario game and concluded the message with, “I’m really excited to announce that I’m gonna be the voice of that video game that I dreamed about playing as a kid. Dreams come true.”

Meanwhile, fans are already excited about Pratt’s appearance (as Peter Quill/Star-Lord) in Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman’s superhero movie Thor: Love and Thunder, since pictures of him with Hemsworth from the film’s set went viral on the internet. Apart from that, Pratt’s upcoming projects, Jurassic World: Dominion and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 have also been the talk of the town since their inception.
